Carmen Monge-Montero on Cancer in Latin America – Voices That Matter

Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and Global Cancer Advocate, shared a post on LinkedIn:

” “¡Qué rico es ser latino!”
But what is it like to have cancer in Latin America?

After two years living across 4 Latin American countries, working in cancer care, and speaking with 40+ cancer patients and survivors in MANO, this is my biggest takeaway.

Cancer care in the region is not just about resources:
It’s about inequality.
It’s about community.
It’s about culture.
And it’s about voices that are too often missing.

I’m sharing what I learned from patients, advocates, and healthcare systems across Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Costa Rica. It’s a reflection shaped by lived experiences across the region, written by a patient advocate and researcher.

I’m looking forward to reading about other Latin American advocates’ experiences, and whether they would include something else. Also, other HCPs, researchers, and advocates from the region or others.

Pura Vida!”
