“Safeguarding cancer care amid armed conflict – highlighted in JCO Global Oncology

A recent publication in JCO Global Oncology (Vol. 11, 2025) proposes a framework to ensure the continuity of oncology services during times of war and humanitarian crises.

The authors emphasize that armed conflicts severely disrupt access to cancer diagnosis and treatment, and urge the global health community to adopt context-specific solutions, including:

  • Prioritization of feasible and life-saving treatments
  • Strengthened coordination of medication and supply chains
  • Expansion of telemedicine and mobile oncology units
  • Cross-border collaboration and sustained support for medical staff

These recommendations form a practical roadmap for maintaining essential cancer care under crisis conditions and ensuring that no patient is left behind – even in the most challenging settings.

We join the authors in calling for global solidarity, preparedness, and advocacy to protect oncology patients affected by war.
