Abinet’s Story: From Diagnosis to Support Through Zero Abandonment – CANCaRe Africa

CANCaRe Africa shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Voices of the families post No. 47 Abinet and his father.

Abinet is a six-year-old boy living with his parents and five siblings from the Fogera district of Ethiopia, about 100 kilometres away from the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH). His family depends on farming for their livelihood.

About five months ago, Abinet got sick and he was referred to UoGCSH, where he was diagnosed with blood cancer and has been receiving his treatment.

‘We had to borrow money to come to the hospital, it was a hard time, we wanted our child to get treatment and get better’ recalled the father.

Thankfully, Abinet is now enrolled in the Zero Abandonment from Start to Finish cash transfer program.
