“Yogyakarta, C/Can’s Horizon City in Indonesia, has moved from planning to action. This August, more than 150 stakeholders gathered, in person and online, at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to launch two outputs from the Yogyakarta Breast Cancer Initiative (YBCI): a localised Breast Cancer Action Plan (BCAP) and a set of priority projects ready for implementation and partner support.
This is what closing the gap between evidence and action looks like: a plan shaped by the people who will carry it out, not handed down from outside, and ready to move straight into delivery.
The initiative matters beyond Yogyakarta itself. As Indonesia’s first sub-national pilot of the National Breast Cancer Action Plan, it shows how a national strategy can become coordinated, city-led action, a model other cities can adapt.
