Kumasi’s Experience Helps Shape New Guide on Implementing WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative – C/Can

City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“In Kumasi, specialists from across the city’s cancer care network set those priorities together at a workshop on WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) in June 2024. One was bringing mammography back to public hospitals, and the main referral cancer centre now has a newly refurbished mammography room. A patient navigation programme is also helping fewer women get lost between first suspicion and diagnosis.

‘Breast cancer awareness should extend beyond simply encouraging women to undergo screening. It is essential to ensure that when a woman takes that important first step, she has access to timely diagnosis, quality treatment, and the necessary support to complete her journey. In Kumasi, we are collaborating to make that journey shorter, safer, and more equitable.’ – Jaliu Abubakari, City Manager, Kumasi.

Kumasi’s experience helped shape a new guide on how to implement the GBCI, which we’ll launch with the participation of the World Health Organization on 20 October at 14:00 CEST.”
