Bishal Gyawali: Reflecting on Mentorship and the Influence on Undergraduate Students

Bishal Gyawali, Associate Professor at Queen’s University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I love mentorship at all levels. But teaching an entire semester to undergrad students is quite different feeling from say, mentoring a fellow or an early career physician scientist.

I get to influence these young minds for 36 hours (3 hrs a week x 12 weeks) and at the end, I’m always kind of antsy about whether I’ve been a positive influence. I always think about the counterfactual control arm: would their lives have been better if they had taken a different course than mine?

But weeks after the course has ended, getting these emails make me determined to teach this course again and again every year.”
