Birgitta Ohlsson Klamberg: US Cancer Research Cuts Force Push Researchers into Clinical Practice

Birgitta Ohlsson Klamberg, Director Political Parties at National Democratic Institute (NDI), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Nice to meet Ulrika Årehed Kågström Secretary General of Cancerfonden and her team this morning.

It was exciting to be updated on cancer research in Sweden and compare it with what is happening in the United States.

Many of you have probably read the gripping article by Tatiana Schlossberg in The New Yorker who has been affected by the same cancer AML as I have. I feel this reality too.

Last fall, I got a new hematologist (blood doctor) at my hospital in Washington who came from the National Institutes of Health (NHI).

Due to the new administration’s cutbacks, they have lost large resources for cancer research. The cutting-edge researchers who should devote all their free time to solving the mystery of cancer are now becoming practicing physicians instead.”
