“Hot off the Press – The Current Landscape of Artificial Intelligence in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Across the Cancer Continuum – MDPI UK Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM) MDPI.
I see Anirudh Shankar and Skanda S Kumar at Canprecise AI emerging to be at the forefront with Partha Choudhury and Dr. Manoj Gupta from the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre in creating Predictive AI Frameworks linking PET imaging biomarkers to therapy response and outcomes, creating individualised care, simulate treatment response and henceforth treatment planning.
The evolution of PET from just another Imaging Modality in Cancer to an Integrated Deep Learning Radiomic platform with Reconstruction has already started – a massive undertaking for Treatment Navigation.
The existing emerging standard is – retrospective, single-centre, and underpowered (small sample), with limited external validation and inconsistent standardisation (in acquisition, segmentation, and extraction), leading to poor reproducibility and higher performance estimates. Federated learning, physics-informed frameworks, and adherence to standardised protocols are essential for regulated AI systems. Furthermore, ethical considerations, including data protection and transparency, need to be considered before implementation.
We are looking at a rigorous prospective validation, cross-instituitional collaboration and regulatory standardisation to co-create nuclear medicine advancements in oncology theranostics.
