Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer of American Cancer Society and President of American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn by Food Health Network, adding:
“Every 15 seconds, someone in the United States is diagnosed with cancer. And while mortality has declined by 34%, one thing we still haven’t solved for is the rise in incidence and prevalence.
The good news is, we’re seeing a sea change around the connection between food and cancer across the entire continuum. This means prevention (42% of cancers are linked to modifiable risk factors), as well as people in active treatment (85% of people with cancer are malnourished at some point during their care), and survivorship (when nutrition can impact recurrence rate for certain cancers).
Importantly, the evidence must meet the moment and be implemented in a way that’s accessible and personalized for everyone.
Very grateful to talk a little bit more about this with Food Health Network in advance of Food HealthTech LIVE on Oct. 7 and 8 where I’ll join three experts across industries to discuss what comes next for food, health, and tech and how we can collate passionate people with varied perspectives to work together and solve the same challenges.”
Quoting Food Health Network:
“This week we spoke with Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at the American Cancer Society.
Arif makes the case that nutrition is not just about prevention, and it is not as simple as telling people to “eat well.” What someone needs during treatment, recovery or survivorship can look completely different depending on their diagnosis, culture, income, access to food and everyday circumstances.
Read the full interview and hear Arif speak at Food HealthTech LIVE in New York City on October 7-8, alongside Roy Steiner, Maneesh Goyal and Dion Dawson.
Enjoy the read!”
