Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer at American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“35% of Americans currently know a first degree relative with cancer.
Which means over a third of Americans are caregivers of someone with cancer.
As we grow our work in the caregiving space at the American Cancer Society, we are incredibly grateful for the partners who share our vision and passion to address the urgent needs of caregivers.
Together with Kite Pharma and Gilead Sciences, we’re zeroing in on helping those who care for people undergoing CAR T-cell therapy – an intensive treatment that requires a 24/7 caregiver for several weeks. Through market research, resource sharing, and financial relief, we’re improving the CAR T experience for patients and families, and striving to create better, sustainable solutions.
Also appreciative of Kite’s dedication to addressing social isolation by instilling confidence and increasing competency for the caregivers we reach. This National Family Caregivers Month, and as we approach the holidays – an often-lonely time for both caregivers and people with serious illness – I encourage you to think about the caregivers in your orbit and what you can do to help create a little extra joy and community in their lives.
Thank you, Kite and Gilead, including Cindy Perettie, Cathy Ferrone, and Chad Saward, for helping caregivers navigate challenging moments and find hope!
