Reflections
AORTIC2025: Sounds, Sights, and the Unfinished Business of Cancer Research in Africa

Just returned from the AORTIC 2025, Hammamet Tunisia, a vibrant gathering of passionate minds, inspiring stories, and urgent calls to action.

The sights was a venue in Hammamet full of African experts, young researchers, survivors, and global allies united by one goal – defeating cancer in Africa.
The sounds: Powerful discussions, data-driven insights, and the unwavering voices of those demanding equity, access, and African-led solutions to Cancer.

While it was uplifting to see progress, innovations, and collaboration, one thing is clear – there is still so much more to be done.
Africa’s cancer burden is rising, but our research capacity and funding remain limited begging for context-specific research, stronger networks, and systems that prioritize implementation science and patient-centered care.

I am challenged to use this conference as a springboard – not just for conversations, but for commitment.
I must research more, publish more, invest more, and collaborate more.
Because the future of cancer care in Africa depends on AFRICANS.”
