Anu Agrawal: Reflections After the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit and a Month of Global Collaboration

Anu Agrawal, Vice President of Global Cancer Support at American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As we give thanks in the US and elsewhere this week, I was able to reflect on my trip back from World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Australia on all of the thanks that I want to give this year. First and foremost, I want to thank my American Cancer Society Global colleagues and ACS leadership on their unwavering commitment to the work we do in partnership with so many colleagues around the world.

Equally important, I want to thank all of our inspirational partners -November was filled with motivation for me, connecting with colleagues doing amazing things at AORTIC- Africa, Baheya Foundation, ACS Global Relay For Life Forum, and finally at the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Summit.

As we all work to sort our individual ways out of the negative messaging algorithm, giving thanks helps to focus on the positive – the inspirational people that are motivating us to continue the focus on patient-centered care and doing all we can together to improve the lives of persons with cancer and their caregivers globally.

I remain positive that we are reaching a tipping point in some of these efforts, like patient navigation. We must have equal focus on prevention and screening and increasing our work connectivity to de-silo and de-duplicate efforts and to optimize limited resources, no matter the setting. We are launching the ACS Global Academy website next month as our effort to better link global partners and implementation resources.

It was also nice to get extra weeks of summer in Australia and to be able to have family time in Melbourne, Hamilton Island, and Sydney to recharge after a whirlwind month. What a beautiful and welcoming place and thanks also to my favorite beach in the world (Whitehaven in the Whitsundays)!”
