“Professor Anand Sachithanandan, founding president of Lung Cancer Network Malaysia and a leading senior cardiothoracic surgeon in Malaysia, recently delivered the inaugural B. Balaji Memorial Lecture at the 25th annual scientific congress of the Malaysian Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MATCVS) on 20 September 2025.
Prof Sachithanandan spoke on the recently published clinical practice guidelines (CPG) for the peri-operative management of resectable early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the country’s first-ever CPG for lung cancer.
According to Prof Sachithanandan, Chair of the CPG Expert Working Group, the guidelines will elevate and harmonise the provision of high-quality and timely care for Malaysians with NSCLC, irrespective of where they access therapy and by whom.
The CPG has been officially endorsed by the Malaysian Oncological Society, Malaysian Thoracic Society, the MATCVS, and the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia.
The guidelines developed by LCNM have been published in Translational Lung Cancer Research.”
