“For me, one of the most touching parts of attending the GO2 for Lung Cancer Centers of Excellence Summit was sitting at lunch, listening to a group of nurses talking about the challenges of what they experienced during the height of the COVID pandemic. Losing people as young as 19, helping people say goodbye to their loved ones via iPads.
I asked them what mental health resources and support were in place for them. The answer was ‘not much.’ It was even more striking because yesterday, October 10, marked World Mental Health Day.
These healthcare heroes carry the emotional weight of these experiences to this day, and we owe them a debt we can never repay.”
