Allison Fitzgerald: The Role of Immunotherapy in External Auditory Canal SCC

Allison Fitzgerald, Hematology/Oncology Clinical Fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, shared a post on X:

“Today I learned about external auditory canal (EAC) squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Unlike cutaneous SCC, EAC SCC are not UV mediated, have less mutations and thus less likely to respond to immunotherapy. Cholesteatomas increase risk of EAC SCC by causing chronic inflammation.

I wouldn’t say no role for immunotherapy. One of my questions yesterday was iso chronic inflammation wouldn’t you expect higher TMB and thus maybe IO would be indicated? They were going to discuss at tumor board.”
