Alicia Castelo, Medical Oncologist at Hospital 12 de Octubre, shared on X:
“We know geriatric assessment can help tailor cancer treatment in older adults.
But tumour-specific, real-world data are still limited.
ReWiGO looked at 102 women aged ≥70 with advanced ovarian cancer across 7 hospitals in Madrid.

The first finding: we are still not doing it enough.
Geriatric assessment was documented in only 28.4% of patients.
And when frailty was assessed, 86.2% showed some degree of frailty: clinically relevant information that chronological age alone cannot provide.
Documented geriatric assessment was strongly linked to interventions:
- Exercise: 57.1% vs 2.7%
- Nutritional intervention: 71.4% vs 24.3%
- Adapted chemotherapy: 52.0% vs 16.1%
Assessment should translate into action.

Frailty was strongly associated with worse survival (HR 4.58), while age was not significantly associated with survival or severe toxicity.
A huge thank you to all my colleagues across the 7 participating hospitals who made ReWiGO possible.”
