Alexander Roediger: Mission Early Highlights the Life-Saving Importance of Early Cancer Diagnosis

Alexander Roediger, Associate Vice-President, Global Lead Oncology Policy at MSD, shared on LinkedIn:

“Early cancer care saves lives.

That simple idea is at the heart of Mission Early, and I was proud to support its Funder Event at ESMO in Madrid last week.

Four years ago, Mission Early started with a simple question: What drives better cancer outcomes?

New treatments are important, but they are only part of the answer. Early detection, timely diagnosis and timely access to high-quality cancer care can be just as critical. When breast cancer is detected early and patients receive timely care, five-year survival can be around 99%.

This became the foundation of Mission Early: Early cancer care saves lives.

Since then, Mission Early has built evidence, engaged European institutions and brought together partners around the world. Today, it is supported by Cancer Patients Europe – CPE, All.Can International, expert advisers and private-sector partners including MSD, with Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) as the secretariat.

And the work is not finished. A few organizations cannot solve this challenge alone. Therefore, we are looking for more partners who share the ambition to improve cancer outcomes through earlier care. Learn more.”
