“I am delighted to welcome the publication of the World Health Organization report, ‘Closing the Childhood Cancer Survival Gap through Sustainable Access to Medicines: Market Shaping Strategy 2026–2030.’
This strategy marks an important milestone for the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines and for our collective efforts to improve equitable and sustainable access to quality-assured medicines for children and adolescents with cancer worldwide.
I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this process and bring the perspectives of people with lived experience (PWLE) to the table. I deeply appreciate WHO’s recognition of the value of lived experience and its commitment to ensuring that our voices are meaningfully included. I would also like to thank Childhood Cancer International for trusting me to represent the organization in this important work.
Combining technical expertise with lived experience is essential to ensure that global strategies are not only rigorous, but also relevant, responsive and grounded in the realities faced by children, survivors and families.
The report presents a shared vision and a roadmap for collective action over the coming years. Now, its success will depend on the continued commitment and collaboration of governments, healthcare professionals, civil society, patient and parent organizations, survivors, international agencies and other partners.
