“ACS CAN was proud to participate in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 55th Annual Legislative Conference, contributing to two important conversations on advancing access to cancer care and innovative therapies for patients.
Transforming Cancer Care in Black Communities: From Early Detection to a Cure was hosted by Representative Terri Sewell (AL-07) and featured Representatives Robin Kelly (IL-02) and Glenn Ivey (MD-04), with actress and entrepreneur Kellie Williams as moderator.
ACS CAN Board Member Dr. Kimberly Jeffries Leonard, PhD and Director of Federal Advocacy James M. Williams, Jr joined the panel of congressional leaders, health experts and advocates to explore ways to advance cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, research, and equitable access to care in Black communities.
Other panelists included Dr. Brandi Kaye Freeman, President-Elect of the National Medical Association, Dr. Megan P. Hall, Senior Vice President for Global Medical Affairs at GRAIL, Dr. Arthur Burnett II, M.D., MBA, FACS, Professor of Urology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Dr. Ifeoma Udoh, Executive Vice President of Policy, Advocacy and Science at the Black Women’s Health Imperative.

At Fueling American Innovation: Getting Breakthrough Therapies to the Patients Who Need Them, ACS CAN Senior Director of Advocacy Health Equity Angela Sailor joined National Minority Quality Forum President and CEO Dr. Gary Puckrein and Dr. Jennifer Ellis of the Association of Black Cardiologists, Inc. to discuss the critical need to ensure more patients can benefit from breakthroughs in medicine, especially in communities disproportionately impacted by diseases like cancer and heart disease.
