Abhishek Shankar: 1st Virtual Nursing Summit on Elimination of Cervical Cancer at AIIMS New Delhi

Abhishek Shankar, Associate Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Secretary General at the Asian Pacific Organization for Cancer Prevention (APOCP), shared a post on LinkedIn:

”I am delighted to share about organising 1st Virtual Nursing Summit on Elimination of Cervical Cancer at AIIMS New Delhi.

I had the opportunity to conduct a panel discussion on Cervical Cancer Screening. The discussion focused on the critical role of screening in achieving the WHO 90-70-90 targets, with emphasis on:

  •  Expanding access to high-performance screening tests
  •  Strengthening nursing leadership in cervical cancer prevention and early detection
  •  Addressing barriers to screening uptake in low-resource settings
  •  Promoting equitable, community-based approaches to achieve cervical cancer elimination

Nurses remain at the forefront of awareness generation, screening, patient navigation, and follow-up care. Their leadership is indispensable in our collective efforts to ensure that no woman dies from a preventable disease.

My sincere thanks to all the distinguished panelists, participants, and College if Nursing for valuable insights and enthusiastic engagement.

Together, we can accelerate progress towards a cervical cancer-free future.”
