Eduard-Alexandru Bonci: Human Connection and Collaboration at ESSO Congress and ESO Masterclass

Eduard-Alexandru Bonci, General Surgeon, Faculty Member at European School of Oncology, Associate Editor at OncoDaily Medical Journal (ODMJ), shared on LinkedIn:

“October was a month full of learning, inspiration, and – most importantly – people.

I had the privilege of participating in two fantastic events: 44th European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) Congress (Gothenburg, Sweden) and the European School of Oncology Masterclass in Clinical Oncology (San Servolo – Venice, Italy).

While the educational and scientific content was very good and important (and yes, we can all access books, articles, online webinars, and even our helpful AI friends), these in-person meetings keep reminding me of something truly irreplaceable:

  • Human connection
  • Shared passion
  • Real-time conversations and mentorship
  • Building a community dedicated to improving cancer care together

These gatherings are not just about knowledge – they’re about shaping the present and future generation of healthcare professionals. They’re where ideas spark, collaborations begin, and friendships grow.

There are so many wonderful people I’d like to thank for their time, help, insights, kindness, and company. Whether it was a formal meeting, lunch, dinner, party, chat over coffee, a discussion after a session, or a shared laugh between meetings – you all made these experiences truly special. I’ll tag as many of you as I can, and I sincerely apologise in advance if I forget anyone!

Here’s to connection, collaboration, and continuous learning – because science moves forward best when we move forward together.
