Joshua Omale, Pediatric Oncology Advocate, Innovation Council Member at Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Redefining the Future of Cancer – Reflections from the International Cancer Week
Last week, I had the privilege of presenting an oral abstract during the International Cancer Week, hosted by the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment with the theme: “Redefining the Future of Cancer: Prevention, Access, and Equity for All.”
I shared our ongoing work in childhood cancer advocacy – how youth-led initiatives are bridging awareness gaps, improving early detection, and shaping equitable access to care across campuses and communities through the collaborative work of the Campus Cancer Awareness Initiative Nigeria (CCAIN) , Slum and Rural Health Initiative Network, Med Aware , Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2) , and CHADI Global; as part of the World Health Organization Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.
It was also a great time of inspiring discussions on genomics and sustainable cancer control in Africa through the work of Direct by Syndicate Bio under the visionary leadership of the founder, Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong, PhD as well as the great thoughts of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) president-elect, H.E Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu on the urgent need for collective responsibility, sustained advocacy, and shared commitment for early interventions.
I remain deeply grateful to Engr. Dr. Ugbede Victor Ahiaba whose support made this possible, and to mentors like Dr. Victoria Buenger, Dr. Isaac Olufadewa my great friends Apever Sedoo , Haggai Elisha , Victor Hosea Musa and others who continue to believe in this mission.
This experience has strengthened my commitment to push further for prevention, for access, and for equity. Because redefining the future of cancer begins with the courage to act now!”
