Shane Jacobson, Chief Executive Officer of American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month was launched by the American Cancer Society 40 years ago. I was honored to join NYC Hope Lodge guests and breast cancer survivors to mark this milestone by giving opening remarks and celebrating significant progress since 1985.
There are more than 4 million breast cancer survivors nationwide. ACS has funded more than $600 million in research that advances innovation and cures to save the lives of those facing the disease. And we’ve helped standardize mammography screening guidelines, which have improved early detection rates. With so much to celebrate, we also recognize that breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer death in women (following lung cancer). We have more work to do!
The ACS team and our volunteers are ready and taking action. This month – and every month – we are here with an unrelenting focus on defeating cancer once and for all!
Thank you to the ACS team members who made the special event possible, and to all who spread hope and energize us with your courage.”
