Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus: The 77th World Health Assembly rush
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The 77th World Health Assembly rush has already started.
This morning, I had my first meeting with Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen to discuss Bangladesh’s investment in local vaccine production, primary health care and prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases.
I was also pleased to meet with Health Ministers of:
– Kenya, Nakhumicha Wafula, to discuss progress on universal health coverage, primary health care and expanding health workforce training;
– Algeria, Abdelhak Saihi, to discuss immunization needs and work, especially to protect migrants and refugees;
– the Commonwealth, with whom our shared priority is to strengthen health systems, the health workforce and emergency preparedness in Small Island Developing States.
We also had a few activities related to humanitarian crises in the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO):
– signing an agreement for an additional contribution of $19.4 million in support of our operations in Yemen, Sudan and Syria;
– an event with all Health Ministers from the region. I reiterated the need for our strong joint advocacy and commitment for respecting dignity and fundamental rights to health, and above all, peace.”
