Jordan faces a critical shortage in palliative and end-of-life care services, despite efforts to improve access. A new study examines the country’s collaborative development of a national strategic framework to advance palliative care – and the persistent barriers that remain.
The research outlines how Jordan brought together government and stakeholders to create a comprehensive framework covering policy, financing, service delivery, opioid access, workforce, and research. While this has driven some progress, major challenges persist around workforce shortages and limited opioid availability.
These systemic issues represent a crisis in palliative care access for patients in Jordan. Urgent action is needed to implement effective solutions and ensure all individuals can access the high-quality end-of-life care they deserve.
This story underscores the crucial need for palliative care integration, particularly in resource-limited settings.
