“Congratulations to Dr. Sia Daneshmand, member of the USC Norris Translational and Clinical Sciences Program and a Director of Urologic Oncology with Keck Medicine of USC’s Department of Urology, who has been appointed Organ Site Chair for local bladder within the SWOG Genitourinary Committee. Dr. Daneshmand’s vision for the future of clinical research in localized bladder cancer, his surgical expertise, and the breadth and depth of his experience as a clinical researcher make him perfectly suited for this role.
Dr. Daneshmand is also strongly committed to the welfare of his patients and nurturing the next generation of clinicians and clinical researchers. SWOG is a National Cancer Institute-supported organization that conducts clinical trials in adult cancers. Comprising more than 4,000 cancer researchers at more than 650 institutions across the United States and Canada, it is one of the largest of the NCI’s clinical trial cooperative groups.
Dr. Daneshmand’s main research interests focus on the use of pathways to improve peri-operative outcomes following radical cystectomy and use of molecular markers and new technologies in diagnosis and management of bladder. He has been a career-long leader in academic investigations in bladder cancer and has led numerous national clinical trials at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at USC. He serves on the AUA Guidelines panel for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, as well as the scientific advisory board of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Urology. In addition, he serves as chair of the bladder cancer committee of the Society of Urologic Oncology Clinical Trial Consortium (SUO-CTC). He has been designated one of the “America’s Top Cancer Doctors” for the past 12 consecutive years and have been a visiting professor at 25 institutions around the world. He has presented over 450 abstracts at scientific meetings and has authored over 350 peer-reviewed articles, editorials, reviews, and book chapters.”
