Gevorg Tamamyan: It was a great honor to present the results of the 1st Global Summit on War and Cancer at the Global High-level Technical Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases in Humanitarian Settings
Gevorg Tamamyan, Chairman and Professor of the Department of Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at Yerevan State Medical University, shared on LinkedIn:
“It was a great honor to present the results of the 1st Global Summit on War and Cancer (December 2023, organized by The Institute of Cancer and Crisis (ICC) and OncoDaily), at the Global High-level Technical Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases in Humanitarian Settings, organized by World Health Organization and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. As I mentioned during my talk, the purpose of the Global Summit was to give a voice to everyone, who has anything to say on the matter – from all over the globe.
We had 3 days of productive discussions during the Summit, with presenters and participants from around 50 countries. The Summit clearly was a success, and we are going to have the 2nd Global Summit on War and Cancer this year, which is going to be in hybrid format (on-site and online; the place and the dates will be announced later). The Resolution on the Summit will be published soon.
This Global High-Level meeting was a very important step in putting together people in the field, bringing the discussion to the tables of UN agencies and I would like to thank the organizers for this great event! Also, special thanks to a dear friend Prof. Richard Sullivan, a world-known oncologist and a true expert of healthcare problems during emergencies, for the invitation and for moving the things forward in the international agenda.”
