“How many medical schools are in Africa, and where are they?
When we tried to answer this, we could only find data from 2010.
Knowing the information was essential for our planning so Miina Weiner Juvonen, Melanie Ng, Nneka Arinzeh, Theodosia Adanu, HERBERT NINSIIMA, Rodas Temesgen, Grace Ajuwon, Oluwaseun Adeniyi Abiodun-Asanre, Sara Pellegrom and I, under the guidance of senior authors Rebecca Weintraub and tadiwos haillu, found the data ourselves.
The team identified 444 medical schools, a 160+% increase from 2010!
We published our findings and shared our analysis in a new article in BMJ Global Health, ‘Medical schools in Africa: seeing momentum‘
