What does quality cancer care mean for you? – Isabel Mestres

What does quality cancer care mean for you?

The answer will vary considerably depending if you ask a patient, a caregiver, a #healthcare professional, a policymaker, an industry representative or an #NGO.

In fact, as of today, there is no universal #monitoringandevaluation tool or guidelines for how quality across the cancer care spectrum should be measured, benchmarked and reported, which poses a huge challenge.

Yes, #cancer is a complex disease that requires a multi-faceted response and, in our case, working with cities, available data is often fragmented or limited, which makes reporting more demanding 📈. But, as challenging as it can seem to measure (and communicate) #impact in cancer care, we all know that we can’t improve what we can’t measure.

To address this challenge we are joining forces with The Institute of Cancer Policy (ICP), King’s College London, in collaboration with the World Health Organization đŸ’Ș. Our goal is to validate a set of quality indicators that can be implemented in resource-limited settings, by anyone who wants to measure and improve cancer care for the benefit of patients and society. 🚀

An important milestone for #cancercare in LMIcs, which we will be discussing next week during #WorldHealthAssembly alongside Dr Andre Ilbawi, Julie S. Torode, ERIC KABISA, Dr. Mary Nyangasi-Onyango, Amadou Diarra , Richard Sullivan and Jade Chakowa, and a crucial step to establishing our City Cancer Challenge cities as knowledge hubs that can inspire the global health community 🌏.

Looking forward to sharing views with those of you who will be in Geneva for #WHA76! If you’re interested, you can register here 👉 http://bit.ly/WHA_CCan
