Sendurai Mani: If someone has positively influenced your confidence, express your gratitude
Sendurai Mani,
“Prioritizing Understanding Over Memorization helped me give a TEDx Talk with Over a Million Views
During my undergraduate years, on my first day of college, one of my professors asked me in English, such as, “What is your name? What does your father do? Where do you come from?” Despite his repeated attempts, I found myself clueless about what he was saying.
However, when the first college exam arrived, I faced the daunting task of expressing myself in English. Thankfully, there was a book available in my native language, Tamil, which I could understand well. I started my answer to the exam in English and finished in Tamil. Much to my surprise, Professor Nagaraj realized that I understood the subject but did not know how to express it in English, and therefore, he rewarded my efforts with the highest marks in the class.
This experience gave me firm confidence and taught me a crucial lesson: understanding the subject is important, regardless of the language used. It ingrained a profound sense of confidence that surpassed my linguistic barriers. Today, as I reflect on this journey that led to my TEDx talk given in English being viewed by millions, I am deeply humbled.
I owe Professor Nagaraj a tremendous debt of gratitude for his unwavering support and encouragement. If someone has positively influenced your confidence, I encourage you to express your gratitude.”
