Nwamaka Lasebikan: It was an honor to contribute as a panelist at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation

Nwamaka Lasebikan, President of the Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON), shared on LinkedIn:

“It was an honor to contribute as a panelist at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation and share my thoughts on the important topic ‘Innovation to improve cancer outcomes’.

I was joined by esteemed panelist Doreen Ramogola-Masire and Umesh Mahantshetty, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre who are doing phenomenal work in Botswana and India with excellent moderation by Surbhi Grover and Katharine Rendle both of University of Pennsylvania.

It was a very enlightening hour, as we delved into actionable strategies to enhance global cancer care, emphasizing collaborative co-creation, transparency and data sharing to strengthen health systems in an intentional and phased approach.

Capacity building for research, community engagement and local funding advocacy were identified as immediate priorities to tackle context specific challenges and solutions which can be scaled up globally. We are pleased that National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment and Usman Aliyu are prioritizing these two activities in Nigeria this year.

We also explored the pivotal role of technology and implementation science research in revolutionizing cancer care.

Together, we can drive impactful change in the fight against cancer.

Looking forward to next steps as we innovate for change, collaborate, cancer research, health systems strengthening with committed partners ARCON Nigeria, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, CTAIR UNN, AORTIC.”
