100 Influential Women in Oncology: Key Opinion Leaders to Follow on Social Media in 2025

Starting on August 26, 2023, in honor of Women’s Equality Day in the United States, which commemorates the 1920 law granting women the right to vote, OncoDaily launched an initiative to spotlight 100 remarkable female leaders in oncology worldwide. Each week, 10 inspiring women were introduced, culminating in the full list and an updated edition in 2024.

Continuing this tradition, we are proud to present the 2025 list of 100 Influential Women in Oncology to Follow on Social Media.

While there are countless exceptional women leaders in oncology who deserve recognition, we acknowledge that we couldn’t feature everyone. This initiative is ongoing, and we look forward to your nominations for 2026. We’ll be sharing the submission link soon.

Here are the first 10 of 100 Influential Women in Oncology to follow in 2025:

Jasmine Kamboj is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist at Mayo Clinic Health System, where she practices as a community oncologist. She serves on the board and Policy Committee of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Oncology, contributes to American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) through the International Affairs Committee and Policy Communities of Practice, and advises the Rural Cancer Institute.

Dr. Kamboj has been recognized with the ASCO Advocate of the Year Award (2021), the ASCO President’s Circle honor (2022), and the Community Oncology Award at the Yvonne Awards 2025. She also serves on the OncoDaily Editorial Board and hosts the Empowering Oncologists podcast elevating the voices in oncology.

Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is a global cancer advocate, a pediatrician, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) President-Elect of 2024-2026, the Founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, and the Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), and a member of the Editorial Board of OncoDaily.

Dr. Bagudu is working with the state ministries of health, education, and women’s affairs to implement programs to sustainably improve menstrual hygiene, girl-child education, economic empowerment of women, and put an end to gender-based violence. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is the driving force behind the “United Against Cancer” interview series on OncoDaily.

Erika Ruiz-Garcia is a Professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology and the Chief of the Translational Medicine Laboratory at the National Cancer Institute in Mexico City (Instituto Nacional de Cancerología). She serves on the Membership Committee and the Gastrointestinal Oncology Editorial Board of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

Dr Ruiz-Garcia’s commitment to enhancing cancer care is underscored by her recent appointment as the President-Elect of the Education Program for 2025-2026 at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Mila Ogalla Toledo is a colorectal cancer survivor, advocate, and Board Member of Digestive Cancers Europe (DiCE), where she also chairs the Patient Advisory Committee. Diagnosed at 26, she transformed her experience into a mission to challenge stigma, foster open dialogue, and strengthen patient representation.

Mila works across Europe to promote equity in health, rare diseases, and patient engagement, and is certified in Equity, Diversity & Inclusivity in Cancer Care. She collaborates with international advocacy groups, including Youth Cancer Europe and OncoDaily, to amplify young survivors’ voices and drive change in awareness, prevention, and cancer care policies.

Diane Reidy-Lagunes is Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at Duke University and Associate Vice President for Oncology Services at Duke Health. She joined Duke in April 2025 after more than 20 years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she held senior leadership roles and created the award-winning podcast Cancer Straight Talk.

Dr Reidy-Lagunes’ research focuses on neuroendocrine and adrenal tumors, with a strong emphasis on molecular-based therapies. She serves on the NCI Neuroendocrine Tumor Task Force and NCCN Guidelines Panel and has been recognized among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors.

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan is a Canadian medical geographer, academic, and former Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North (2008–2025). She has previously served as Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities. She was the Chair of the Standing Committee on Science and Research in the House of Commons.

Prior to entering politics, she was an associate professor of health studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough, an associate professor of geography at the University of Windsor, and the former Research Director for the AIC Institute of Corporate Citizenship at the Rotman School of Management. Dr. Duncan has been a vocal cancer patient and advocate over the years.

Susanna F. Greer is the Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation for Cancer Research providing funding for promising cancer research initiatives. Prior to joining the V Foundation, Dr. Greer served as a Senior Scientific Director at the American Cancer Society, leading the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Research Program.

Dr Greer also held a tenured position as a professor at Georgia State University, where she directed the Molecular Basis of Disease Program. She is a prominent figure in science communication and advocacy, with a strong commitment to advancing cancer research.

Samia Al-Amoudi is a Saudi physician, consultant obstetrician-gynecologist, and twice a breast cancer survivor. A pioneer in women’s health empowerment and rights, she founded and leads the Sheikh Mohammed Hussien Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer in Jeddah. She is Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University, Head of its Health Empowerment and Rights Unit, and serves on global committees including the Harvard GTF.CCC Technical Advisory Committee and Breast Health Global Initiative.

Her story is inspiring for many, and she is a leading advocate for women’s health across the Middle East.

Katie Coleman, a stage IV cancer survivor, is the founder of OncoLogic Solutions, and President of the Chromophobe and Oncocytic Tumor Alliance (COA), a consultant for the Rare Cancer Research Foundation. Diagnosed with a rare metastatic oncocytoma at age 29, Katie became one of only few known cases worldwide. She builds tools and strategies for nonprofits, research organizations, and oncology teams, and advocates for rare cancer awareness.

Katie shares her journey through her memoir, Too Young for Cancer, empowering the oncology community worldwide.

Deanna van Gestel is the founder and CEO of Women Leaders in Oncology, providing networking and mentorship opportunities to women in the oncology field. She has 30 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, the last 25 in oncology. Deanna is the founder and CEO of the Vaniam Group, board member of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the ASCO, a member of the Women Who Conquer Cancer Committee, and a member of the Tugboat Institute.
