Kirsten Efremov: Strengthening Patient Engagement in the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Community
Kirsten Efremov, Program Coordinator, Clinical and Support Programs at Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), shared a post on X:
“In 2023, I attended International Society of Paediatric Oncology in Ottawa as both a representative of Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) and someone with lived experience in the cancer community. It was one of those rare moments where my professional role and personal journey came together in an unexpected and meaningful way.
After a presentation, I went up to one of the researchers and asked if their study included any patient partners. She said no—and then asked if I’d like to join.
Fast forward two years, and I’m incredibly grateful to Samantha Sodergren and Nicole Collaço from the University of Southampton for bringing me on board as the lone Canadian on their AYA research project.
This paper is truly an international collaboration, and I’m proud to be part of work that aims to strengthen patient engagement in the Adolescent and Young Adult cancer community.
Also special thanks to Céline Bolliger Peter Dawes, Sonia Obiokafor and Anne-Sophie Darlington. It was such a pleasure to work with you all.”
