Low-Dose Radiation Therapy May Help Treat Arthritis
Sameer Keole, President at American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), shared on X:
“Low-dose radiation therapy may help treat arthritis and other benign conditions – Washington Post
Insights from ASTRO members Dr. Sanjay Mehta and Dr. Gopal K. Bajaj featured. Clinical stories are compelling and stronger data is emerging.
While the evidence is stronger for Dupuytren’s, OA treatments are catching up fast. Inflammatory conditions reportedly see 60–80% symptom improvement – but of course, more robust prospective trials are needed.
At ASTRO25, the Presidential Symposium – ‘Rediscovering Radiation Medicine & Exploring New Indications’ – will include tracks on musculoskeletal, cardiac, and functional neurologic uses of radiotherapy, led by global subject matter experts from multiple discliplines.
ASTRO is investing in infrastructure, coding guidance, and education to support LDRT adoption in non-malignant conditions. The specialty is coming together to build high‑quality evidence and expand what radiation medicine physicians can offer patients in their clinics.”
