Miriam Mutebi: Honored to Be Recognized at the 2nd NCI Kenya Summit

Miriam Mutebi, Breast Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Recognition isn’t applause. It’s proof that the fight for better cancer care in Africa is being seen, felt, and gaining momentum.

I was truly honored to be recognized at the 2nd National Cancer Institute of Kenya (NCI Kenya) Summit.

This year’s theme, ‘Uniting Voices and Taking Action: Recognizing Excellence,’ marked the launch of Kenya’s inaugural awards for exemplary efforts in cancer control, both locally and internationally.

Being acknowledged for contributions toward expanding access, awareness, and impact in cancer care across Kenya and the continent feels deeply meaningful.

This recognition represents more than a personal honor; it’s a symbol of the momentum we’re building together.

Momentum for equity in Radiotherapy, for equity in Surgery. Momentum for African-led research. Momentum for stronger systems, earlier diagnosis, and patient-centered care.

To my fellow awardees and every frontline champion working tirelessly in this space, this belongs to all of us.

To all my ladies, you are the reason we do what we do! Thank you for the support and encouragement you give us, even when going through personal challenges. Your grace remains an inspiration!

The real work continues, and together we’re making a difference.”
