Find Out How Your Cancer Could Be Hidden on a Mammogram

Cynthia Jordan, Founder at Learn Look Locate, shared on LinkedIn:

“85% of people diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history.

That’s the truth – and yet so many still think, ‘It won’t happen to me.’

But here’s another truth:

If you have dense breasts, your cancer could be hidden on a mammogram.

Not because you did anything wrong – because dense tissue can mask tumors, making them harder to detect.

I know this because it happened to me.
And it’s happening to people every single day.

We’re told to look for lumps.
But breast cancer doesn’t always show up that way.

Here’s what else you need to know:

  • A persistent rash or red, itchy nipple
  • A dimple or puckering in the skin
  • Nipple discharge
  • Swelling or thickening anywhere in the breast or underarm
  • Pain that doesn’t go away
  • A change in shape, size, or skin texture

It’s not always obvious – and it’s not always visible on routine screening.

Dense breast tissue isn’t rare. In fact, nearly half of women over 40 have it. But many aren’t told what it means.
They aren’t told that dense tissue can make it harder to see cancer.

They aren’t told about supplemental screening options.

They’re left in the dark – until it’s too late.

So many people don’t know – and it’s time we change that.

Do you know your breast density?

Have you ever heard of lobular, Paget’s disease or inflammatory breast cancer?
Did you know men can get breast cancer too?

Let’s have the conversations we were never taught to have.

Let’s unmask what’s been hidden for far too long and wake people up to learn more about this complex disease.

What’s something you wish people knew about breast cancer?
