Patrick Hwu: This interesting strategy has potential implications for combination cancer immunotherapy
Patrick Hwu, President and CEO at Moffitt Cancer Center, shared a post on X/Twitter:
“Tumors can make a lot of lactic acid which typically inhibits the function of infiltrating T cells. Researchers at Tongji Medical College have found that the mood stabilizer lithium carbonate can shunt the lactic acid into T cell mitochondria where it can be used as an energy source to enhance T cell antitumor activity. This interesting strategy has potential implications for combination cancer immunotherapy.”
