Ioana Stoenescu: Romania Leads Again in Aligning with EU Health Priorities

“Romania leads again in aligning with EU health priorities!
After being the first EU country to approve a National Cancer Plan in line with the EU Beating Cancer Plan, Romania is once again setting a precedent — becoming the first EU Member State to approve a National Strategy aligned with the EU Cardiovascular Plan and Roadmap.
Yesterday’s newly adopted National Strategy for Combating Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases (2025–2030) reflects Romania’s commitment to improving public health and reducing preventable mortality through a long-term, systemic approach.
Key aligned priorities include:
- Comprehensive Prevention – addressing all levels of prevention and promoting healthier lifestyles through early detection and risk-reduction efforts.
- Equitable Access to Quality Care and Rehabilitation – focusing on modernizing rehabilitation services and ensuring all patients have access to optimal care pathways.
- Data Systems and Digital Innovation – building national registries and leveraging digital tools to empower patients and improve care delivery.
- Research, Innovation and Workforce Development – encouraging research, public-private partnerships, and expanding specialized medical workforce capacity.
- Addressing Health Inequalities – a firm commitment to reducing disparities across regions and populations, especially in Central and Eastern Europe.
Grateful recognition to Minister Alexandru Rogobete and former Minister Alexandru Rafila for championing this bold and strategic vision for Romania’s health system — a landmark moment for cardiovascular care.
And deep appreciation to all experts who contributed to shaping this landmark strategy: Prof.Dr. Dragos Vinereanu, Prof. Dr. Dafin Mureșanu and CS II Dr. Stefan Strilciuc.
This is a defining step forward for Romania — and a model for Europe.
