Guillermo Chantada Delivers Keynote on Childhood Cancer Strategy in Latin America

Guillermo Chantada, President of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), shared Daniela Arce Cabrera’s post LinkedIn:

“Thank you, Daniela and thank you to AMOHP for the opportunity to present this problem that we address by including what the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP has worked on together with the Latin American Society of Pediatric Oncology (SLAOP) in programs such as Programa TELEO and Global Mapping with the support of Foundation S and Barcelona Children’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. Great advances in Mexico and Latin America!”

Daniela Arce Cabrera, Secretary / Steering Committee Member at Mexico in Alliance with St. Jude shared on LinkedIn:

“On Saturday, July 5, 2025, Dr. Guillermo Chantada delivered a Keynote Lecture during the closing ceremony of the XXX International Congress of the Mexican Group of Pediatric Oncohematology (AMOHP) in Mexico City, providing a perfect finale to a truly extraordinary event. His topic, ‘Global Mapping in Childhood Cancer: How Are We Doing in Latin America?’, invited both reflection and action.

Dr. Chantada shared a brilliant analysis of how collaborative and strategically prioritized efforts can save the lives of children with cancer in our region. He highlighted four key pillars for coordinating effective actions with direct impact on patients: active government engagement, inclusion of family groups, optimization of pharmacology, and strengthening of ethics committees – all essential to facilitating and enhancing collaborative work across Latin America.

I take with me a powerful phrase he shared during his lecture that captures the spirit of this collective call:

‘Let us protect children with cancer by opening and facilitating the doors of research.’ ”
