Sachin H. Jain: A Kind-Hearted Soul Who Believed Deeply in the Dignity and Potential of Every Human Being
Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Group and Health Plan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“One of the most remarkable qualities of my late father was his unwavering instinct to embrace the underdog.
In every sphere of life, he stood with those on the margins. People others had forgotten, overlooked, or dismissed as unlucky.
There was the unemployed engineer he met in passing, whom he invited to live with us while he got back on his feet. (He stayed for over two months!)
There was the religious leader shunned by mainstream faith communities, for whom my father helped found a lasting organization.
There was the hospital physician being sidelined by her colleagues (someone he barely knew), yet he still went out of his way to help her find new job opportunities.
There was the brilliant but mentally ill woman he helped place in a friend’s laboratory, recognizing her intellect when others focused only on her illness.
And there was the young clinical fellow with anger issues, whom my father mentored closely, refusing to give up on someone others had written off.
These are just a few examples of the many underdogs my father lifted up in quiet, lasting ways.
And sometimes they got burned in these situations, but never seemed to mind it too much (or at least as much as I might).
I often wonder where this deep compassion came from.
Perhaps he saw himself as an underdog too: an unlikely immigrant success story who had caught a few lucky breaks thanks to the kindness of others.
Or maybe it stemmed from his deep belief in karma: that what you give to the world comes back to you in some form.
But sometimes I think it was simply who he was.
A kind-hearted soul who believed deeply in the dignity and potential of every human being.
Whatever the reason, I often think about how different the world might be if more of us made room in our lives for the unloved.
If we offered just a little more grace to those on the outside looking in.
If we carried just a little of my father’s generosity and his unshakable faith in people.”
