Karen Knudsen: Here’s to freedom, discovery, and the future
Karen Knudsen, Chief Executive Officer at Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, posted on LinkedIn:
“Wishing everyone in the USA a Happy July 4th! While we celebrate the founding of the nation, it’s also worth celebrating just how far science has taken us.
In 1776, cancer was feared, misunderstood, and almost always fatal. There were no microscopes for diagnosis, no anesthesia, and no effective therapies. Fast forward to now, when we can sequence tumors, personalize treatment, and activate someone’s immune system to fight back.
That leap from mystery to precision medicine happened because of scientific discovery. Key Institutions like The National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute (NCI) led studies that significantly reduced death from cancer in the USA, and I am grateful.
So here’s to freedom, discovery, and the future. May the next breakthroughs be just around the corner.”
