An Unforgettable Story from the Mother of a Childhood Cancer Survivor – World Child Cancer
World Child Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In early June, during Nepal’s Survivor’s Day event, a chance to check-in with children who have overcome cancer, we heard an unforgettable story from Hari Maya Tamang, the mother of a childhood cancer survivor.
Her daughter is now cancer-free thanks to the compassion and care provided by the Nepal Childhood Cancer Alliance (NCCA), supported by World Child Cancer and partners. Here is what she shared:
“When my daughter was first diagnosed with cancer, I was completely lost. As a mother, I had no idea what to do, where to go for treatment, or how to afford the medical expenses. The fear and helplessness I felt were overwhelming, watching my child suffer while struggling with financial limitations was the most painful experience of my life which I cannot express in words, even today I get scared of thinking that time of my life.
Then, somehow, I learned about the Nepal Childhood Cancer Alliance (NCCA). From that moment, everything changed. With the support of World Child Cancer, Leonardo Edward Shrestha Foundation, Ramesh Gupta Memorial Trust (RGMT), and Together Against Childhood Cancer (TACC), my child received the life-saving treatment she needed. The NCCA team and family support officer in hospital guided us through every step connecting us to doctors, covering treatment costs, and providing emotional support when I felt hopeless.
Today, my daughter is cancer-free, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. Beyond medical care, NCCA’s scholarship program gave her the chance to continue her education, something I could never have afforded on my own. This support was not just financial; it gave my family hope and a future.
To me, World Child Cancer and its partners were like angels sent by God in our darkest time. No words can fully describe what their help meant to a mother like me, who had nowhere else to turn. I pray that more families like mine find this lifeline so no child has to suffer without care.”
