Wafaa M Rashed: Final Words to the Eighth Cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course

Wafaa M Rashed, Faculty Lecturer of Pharmacy at the Ahram Canadian University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Final Words to the Eighth Cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics Course
Dear Participants,
As we draw the curtain on the Eighth Cohort of this transformative journey, I am filled with both deep pride and profound hope.
Congratulations on completing the eighth cohort of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course, hosted by the Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI). Your commitment, curiosity, and courage have shaped one of the most inspiring and diverse learning communities we’ve seen yet.
Over the past weeks, you have engaged in bold debates, explored complex ethical challenges, and developed a critical understanding of what it means to advocate for genomic science that serves justice, equity, and truth. You didn’t just learn policy—you embodied it. Through each discussion, each presentation, and each team collaboration, you have proven that science is strongest when guided by conscience.
This cohort is special—not just for your brilliance, but for the rich diversity and powerful unity you brought. Together, you represented nations and perspectives from across the continent:
Participating Countries:
  •  Kenya
  •  Nigeria
  •  Ethiopia
  •  Egypt
  •  Eswatini
  •  Togo
  •  Somalia
  •  Sudan
  •  Tanzania
  •  Uganda
Your voices echoed across borders and disciplines—amplifying stories of local health systems, raising ethical flags in emerging technologies, and offering solutions rooted in African realities. You are not the next generation of thought leaders—you are the current generation of changemakers.
To our outstanding Teaching Assistants, Dr. Dr.Ernest (Ghana) and Ms. Mariyam Youssef (Egypt)—thank you for your tireless dedication, mentorship, and care. Your leadership made this experience meaningful for every participant.
As you leave this cohort, carry with you not only the knowledge you’ve gained, but the community you’ve built and the responsibility you’ve embraced. The world needs advocates like you—grounded in ethics, empowered by evidence, and driven by justice.
‘You don’t have to be loud to lead; just be clear, consistent, and committed.’
‘Advocacy is not a moment—it’s a movement. Keep going.’
‘If your voice holds truth, never be afraid to raise it.’
This is not goodbye—it is the beginning of your policy journey. Keep questioning. Keep pushing. Keep leading.
With deep respect and hope,
Dr. Wafaa M. Rashed
Chair and Founder, PAPERI”
