Global Tobacco Control Efforts to Reduce Lung Cancer Risk – Union for International Cancer Control

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Every puff of tobacco smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals, including 70 known to cause cancer. These harmful substances damage lung cells, making them more vulnerable to mutations that can lead to lung cancer.
The good news? Quitting smoking at any age significantly reduces the risk of lung cancer. It’s never too late to quit.
UICC members, such as Cancer Council Australia, are at the forefront of tobacco control efforts, advocating for stronger regulations and providing crucial support to help individuals quit smoking. Their work is vital in reducing the global burden of lung cancer and promoting healthier, tobacco-free lives.”

UICC underscored the health risks of tobacco use and the benefits of cessation at any age. It highlighted the work of member organizations like Cancer Council Australia, which are leading global efforts in tobacco control and support services.
