Fernando Goldsztein: A Time to Raise Awareness about Brain Tumors
Fernando Goldsztein, Board Member at Founder of
“Every Child Deserves a Future:
May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness about brain tumors. It’s an important moment to remember that, although cancer is one of the leading causes of death among children worldwide, treatment advances have not reached everyone — especially children with medulloblastoma.
This harsh reality is what led me to found the The Medulloblastoma Initiative (MBI). Nearly a decade ago, my son was diagnosed with this type of tumor. I soon discovered that the treatments are the same as those from the 1980s — toxic, outdated, and, in many cases, ineffective. There was no time to lose. I decided to act.
Today, MBI is a global initiative that brings together the world’s leading scientists with one mission: to change the course of this disease. We accelerate science. We fund collaborative research. And we’ve already managed to get two clinical trials approved by the FDA in the United States in record time — an unprecedented achievement in the fight against pediatric cancer.
But there’s still so much to be done. Brain Cancer Awareness Month is a call to action. Every day without progress is one less day for thousands of children. Every donation, every partnership, every voice that joins this cause brings us closer to a future where no family has to hear the words, “There’s nothing more we can do.”
This future is possible. We are proving it — with science, with urgency, and with hope.
Because every child deserves a future.”
