Dr. Leo Mascarenhas Takes the Helm at Cedars-Sinai as Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Director of the Sarcoma Program, Catalyzing Transformation in Pediatric Cancer Care

World-renowned pediatric hematologist – oncologist Leo Mascarenhas shared on LinkedIn:

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Director, Sarcoma Program at Cedars-Sinai!”

Dr. Leo Mascarenhas held significant roles prior to his recent appointment as Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Director of the Sarcoma Program at Cedars-Sinai. He served as the Deputy Director of the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute, director of the Sarcoma and Solid Tumor Program, and acted as the Principal Investigator for the National Cancer Institute-funded Children’s Oncology Group (COG) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Additionally, he held the position of Section Head of Oncology within the Division of Hematology and Oncology at CHLA and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Dr. Mascarenhas currently serves as the Chair-elect of the voting body within the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). He has previously served on the board of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and contributes as a reviewer for several prominent peer-reviewed medical journals. Furthermore, he acts as a medical consultant for the Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr. Mascarenhas graduated from St. John’s Medical College in Bengaluru, India. He completed his pediatric residency at New York Medical College and pursued fellowships in hematology-oncology and research immunology/bone marrow transplantation at CHLA. In addition, Dr. Mascarenhas holds a master’s degree in clinical and biomedical investigations from the University of Southern California (USC).
