Adam Fein: New on Drug Channels – who really controls specialty drug dispensing?
Adam Fein, President at Drug Channels Institute, an HMP Global company, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New on Drug Channels: Who really controls specialty drug dispensing?
Drug Channels Institute’s latest analysis reveals that PBM-affiliated specialty pharmacies continue to dominate—accounting for two-thirds of prescription revenues. Despite nearly 1,900 accredited locations, specialty dispensing remains concentrated among a few vertically integrated giants.
We break down the top 15 players, share updated market share and revenue estimates, and explore how provider-owned and health system-owned pharmacies are shifting the landscape.”
Tanja Obradovic, Oncology Medical Strategy Advisor at Mercurial AI, shared this post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Great report from Adam Fein monitoring trends in market share of specialty pharmaceuticals in the US for 2024. Few things that stand out.
Pharmacies linked to the three largest PBMs continue to account for two-thirds of prescription revenues from pharmacy-dispensed specialty drugs. Over the past two years specialty drugs share of revenues has declined and some of the reasons are launches of generic nonbiologicals and increased adoption of biologic biosimilars. Hospital and health-system owned pharmacies are on the rise.
Will they significantly shift landscape in the incoming years?”
