Luchuo Engelbert Bain: Global Goals in Jeopardy – Why We’re Failing Women, Children, and Adolescents
Luchuo Engelbert Bain, Head of International Programs at African Population and Health Research Center, shared on LinkedIn about a recent paper by Agbessi Amouzou et al. published in The Lancet:
“Global Goals in Jeopardy: Why We’re Failing Women, Children, and Adolescents
Despite earlier momentum, progress toward 2030 health targets for women, children, and adolescents is stalling, risking reversal in some settings – especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
This Lancet report sounds the alarm: economic instability, armed conflict, climate change, and shrinking health investments are reversing critical gains in survival, nutrition, and access to care.
The global health community must refocus on equity, resilience, and sustained investment. A bold, unified vision – centering RMNCAH in universal health coverage, climate action, and financing agendas – is overdue. We cannot let the most vulnerable pay the price of global inaction. The time to re-prioritize and re-invest is now.
Tomorrow, April 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, the Countdown to 2030 for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health—in collaboration with The Lancet, Senegal’s Ministry of Health and Social Action, and other partners – will host a launch event for the 2025 Countdown Lancet Report, a global update on the situation and trends in women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health worldwide.
Be part of the conversation as we launch the 2025 Countdown Lancet Report.
