Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: We must all continue to advocate that Governments prioritize cancer funding and impart the right education
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President Elect 2024-2026 and Chief Executive Officer at Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Daily, we all continue to witness the devastating effects of cultural stigma, and financial hardship that patients with cancer face.
One of my main tasks as President-Elect of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is to ensure we use our wide network of members to reach and address cancer care inequities that plague women.
For many, the disease remains shrouded in fear and misconception. Women battling breast or cervical cancer are often ostracized, accused of witchcraft, or abandoned by their families due to ignorance and deeply ingrained cultural beliefs. And even in those who desire treatment, financial constraints and lack of healthcare infrastructure is a huge barrier.
As Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) members, we must all continue to advocate that Governments prioritize cancer funding, impart the right education, and catalyze private sector partnerships to provide equipment and human resources.
