Introducing the Coordinators of AIEOP’s 2024-2027 Working Groups – Marta Pillon

AIEOP (Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology) posted on LinkedIn:

“‘Introducing the Coordinators of AIEOP’s 2024-2027 Working Groups’

  • Coordinator: Marta Pillon
  • Working Group: Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
  • Center: University of Padua

What makes you most proud of this working group?

‘I’m most proud of the close collaboration with international study groups like EICNHL, which has enabled major advances in defining standard treatments, implementing molecular biology, and identifying prognostic factors for pediatric NHL.’

What is your vision for this 2024-2027 term?

‘My vision is to further strengthen international collaboration to tackle rare pediatric lymphoma subtypes lacking uniform protocols. Additionally, I hope to further explore applying molecular biology for better risk stratification and personalized therapies for all NHL subtypes.’

Why is this working group so important?

‘This working group is crucial as pediatric NHL are a heterogeneous group requiring a multidisciplinary approach and close collaboration to define best treatment practices and conduct advanced research.’

What areas of research are you most passionate about exploring?

‘The genetic predisposition to Non-Hodgkin lymphoma remains an under-explored field, yet I firmly believe it warrants extensive further research. Uncovering the genetic foundations that increase susceptibility to NHL could unlock the door to highly impactful targeted therapies tailored precisely to each patient’s unique genetic profile.’

Who or what personally inspires you?

‘Inspiration is drawn from the brilliant scientific minds and tireless efforts of current researchers and clinicians, as well as the past pioneers in this field. However, the greatest source of motivation stems from the remarkable resilience displayed by pediatric patients facing the disease. The potential to positively impact young lives through excellence and advancements in research and clinical care serves as the driving inspirational force.'”
